Murder: Man, 34, Kills Wife Over Alleged Extramarital Affair, Arrested |
Coimbatore: The Mahalingapuram police in Coimbatore district arrested a 34-year-old man on Saturday night for murdering his wife over her alleged extramarital affair with a man at her workplace.
Police said the accused, identified as M David alias Arumugam, 34, asked his wife, A Karpagam, 33, from Puthu Colony at Thoppampatti near Mahalingapuram, to put an end to the relationship and stabbed her to death after she refused and wanted a divorce from him.
According to the Mahalingapuram police, the deceased was residing with her husband, a wall painter, and working at a private dental scan centre in Pollachi, where she got involved in an extramarital affair with a man.
An investigating officer said Arumugam, who married Karpagam 14 years ago, learned about her affair five months ago. Police said a month ago, Arumugam fought with his wife and went to his parent’s house at Puliyappampalayam near Palladam in Tirupur district.
A week ago, Arumugam’s relatives met Karpagam and advised her to resume her married life with him. But she told them that she was not interested in leading a life with him.
On Saturday night, the accused bought a knife and met his wife. He asked her to return to him and end her extramarital affair. When she demanded a divorce, Arumugam stabbed her in the neck, abdomen, shoulder and head. She died on the spot.
Hearing the commotion, the neighbours alerted police, who rushed to the spot and arrested Arumugam. Police sent Karpagam’s body for a postmortem. The accused was remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.
