New names for Aurangabad city, dist & taluka: Maharashtra deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis | Aurangabad News

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has clarified that not only the name of Aurangabad and Osmanabad cities but also the names of the talukas and districts, along with local civic bodies, would be changed by following due procedure.
Earlier, leader of opposition in the state legislative council Ambadas Danve had sought clarification on the notification issued by the Union government on Friday regarding changing the name of only Aurangabad city to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. “If the name of Aurangzeb has to be erased from Aurangabad, then the district must be also named Sambhajinagar,” he had tweeted mentioning Fadnavis.
Fadnavis tweeted asking Danve to first understand the official procedure for renaming. “The General Administration Department (of the state government) issues notification once the approval process (for renaming) of the Centre is over, which leads to changing names of cities. This notification is out and as per which, Aurangabad has been named as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv (sic).”
Fadnavis further added, “… after that, Revenue and Forest departments as well as the Town Planning department will issue (separate) notifications, it will pave the way for changing the name of district, taluka, municipal corporation and municipal council as well. The related process for both districts has been started (sic).”
Taking a dig at Danve, he added, “Whenever we do something, we do it completely. (We) never leave anything incomplete (sic).”
Later, speaking to reporters in Delhi, Fadnavis reiterated that there is no confusion. “The necessary notifications (by revenue and forest departments and town planning department) could not be issued due to the holidays today and tomorrow (Saturday and Sunday). It will be issued on Monday. We are trying to issue it today (Saturday),” he said.
Fadnavis also thanked PM Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah for approving the decision taken by the Shinde-led government to rename Aurangabad and Osmanabad. Political parties, including BJP, Shiv Sena, UBT and MNS celebrated the renaming of Aurangabad. Shiv activits changed some of the boards of bus stops in the Shivajinagar area.
