BENGALURU: The government’s decision to increase salaries of its employees by 17% as an interim measure will cost the state exchequer Rs 7,246 crore annually, law and parliamentary affairs minister JC Madhuswamy said. The cabinet, which met in the city on Wednesday, gave its post-facto approval to the salary hike decision.
On March 1, the government announced 17% interim hike for all its employees and pensioners after the employees’ association threatened to go on an indefinite strike. Since the hike is an interim one, the burden on the state exchequer could go up further once the 7th Pay Commission, which has already been constituted, gives its final report.
Land for BSNL towers
The cabinet decided to allocate 2,000 sqft of land in remote villages to help state-run mobile service provider BSNL erect mobile towers. “We will provide land in 1,200-1,300 villages on lease for 30 years under the Centre’s 4G saturation programme,” Madhuswamy said.
The cabinet also decided to amend Karnataka Minor Mineral Policy to regulate quarrying and supplies of minor minerals, besides fixing uniform royalty rates across the state.
