PUNE: Police on Wednesday arrested Santosh Kamble (31) for opening fire on his friend Prashant Shrikant Gavali (27) at Ambedkarnagar on Tuesday.
Senior inspector Anagha Deshpande of Market Yard police told TOI, “We arrested Kamble from a spot located in Ambegaon Pathar, off Katraj – Dehu road bypass. We have seized the country-made pistol from his possession which he used in the crime”.
“After recording the statement of Gavali, who sustained bullet injuries near his right-hand palm, we registered a case of attempt to murder against Kamble. Both are childhood friends,” Deshpande said.
“We questioned Kamble, a criminal on police record involved in body offences, on the incident and he informed us that he was unhappy with Gavali. Gavali, according to him, was bossing the local residents and was threatening them without any reason. On Tuesday, they both bumped into each other and an argument ensued between them. In a fit of rage, Kamble pulled out the weapon and fired at Gavali from close range. And he ran away from the spot,” Deshpande said.
“Gavali, an unemployed man, did not cite any reason behind the firing by his friend,” Deshpande said.
“He informed us that he brought the weapon from a person based in Madhya Pradesh,” she said.
