AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad police has been getting more cases of cheating and theft using dating apps. After the arrest of three people in Sola, the city police on Saturday arrested four more persons who were involved in cheating and theft using a dating app.
The four were arrested by the Ramol police. A police team got information about four persons who were allegedly involved in offences using dating apps.
The cops raided the area and arrested Rahul Nayar (31), a resident of Vastral, Abhishek Goswami (30), Taxak Goswami (26) and Vishal Tomar (27).
The Ramol police officials said that the four were detained after they failed to give a satisfactory reply about the two bikes that they were riding. The cops then seized cash and mobile phones. These phones had dating apps installed in them.
During their interrogation, the four informed the cops that they are friends and are unemployed. “Whenever they needed money, they used to present themselves as gays on dating apps and would call people to meet at isolated places,” said a policeman.
They would then threaten their victims with defaming them by making their pictures viral on social media. The four used to take big amount from them and even attack them.
They informed the cops that one of the bikes that they were using was of a youth whom they had called for a meeting. Later, the four asked him to pay Rs 20,000 but when he could not pay the amount they took his bike. A bike was also stolen by the four around four months ago.
