
MANGALURU: A tusker that killed two persons, was captured by the forest department in the Sunkadakatte section of Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday.
Subrahmanya range forest officer (RFO) HT Raghavendra said that the elephant was darted at around 4pm, following which efforts are being made to shift the animal.
The elephant was captured at Madekara in Mudur reserve.
“It’s a huge and energetic elephant, and efforts are on to control and monitor it. Shifting of the elephant will happen based on the direction of senior officers. ,” he said.
Tamed elephants Abhimanyu, Prashanth, Harsha, Kanjan and Mahendra from Thithimathi and Dubare were part of the operation led by deputy conservator of forest (DCF) Dinesh Kumar YK. More than 50 staff members from the Sullia, Panja and Subrahmanya range, along with 30 mahouts and kavadis as well as veterinarians were part of the operation.
