Calangute woman, believed to be Goa’s oldest, dies at 111 years | Goa News



Calangute: Matilda D’Souza, a resident of Naika Vaddo, Calangute, died peacefully on Sunday at the age of 111 ata private hospital in Mapusa. Born on October 25, 1911, three years before World War I, Matty, as she was lovingly called, was considered to be Goa’s oldest woman following the death of 112-year-old Lourdes Conceicao Lobo of Camurlim on November 3, 2021.
D’Souza’s funeral will be held at 3.30 pm on Tuesday at St Alex Church, Calangute.
Having lost her eldest son some years ago, she leaves behind two sons and two daughters besides grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, local panchayat members and Calangute police led by former PI Dattaguru Sawant had met her at her residence to wish her on her 111th birthday last year.
